Chao Fu Cheng

First of all, a very HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all! May this year be better than the year before! How did I spend the last day of 2017? Well, I went to the market to buy some shrimp. They were live ones. I’d never bought shrimp before in my life, but I do know the live ones are the best. If they’re on ice, you have no idea how long they’ve been there. So, bought (live) shrimp, chicken, some veggies, and went back home to make fried rice. It was pretty good. I’d already cleaned earlier that day, cannot start the new year in a dirty place. Not that it was dirty, I’m pretty neat, if I do say so myself. The fried rice was AMAZING! Then, I welcomed 2018 in my bed, chatting with my classmates, boyfriend and my parents.

Earlier that week, my colleagues and I went to one of the best restaurants in Xiamen: Chao Fu Cheng!

I don’t think I’ve blogged about this restaurant before, but I love the food. The English name is “Lucky Full City Seafood Restraurant,” the Chinese name is 潮福城. My friend Ashleen introduced me to this place. The prices are reasonable and the food… OH! I cannot describe it! The chefs are from Hong Kong. It’s so much better than the bland and oily food I’ve had so far in Xiamen. Even when I talk to Chinese from different provinces, they all say the food in Xiamen SUCKS!

Chao Fu Cheng
Chao Fu Cheng – My favorite! I THINK it’s steamed bread, not sure, but it’s filled with pork. SO GOOOD! This year I decided to cut down on the pork, it’s one of my New Year’s Resolutions.

We had to pick a place with a diverse menu, because one of our teachers is vegan, another is a vegetarian. Chao Fu Cheng is one of the few Chinese restaurants I know where you can find more than just pork on the menu. We had a marvelous time chatting and oh, I had a magnificent time eating this steamed bread. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water.

Chao Fu Cheng – Some more steamed bread. This one I DID NOT like at all.

This steamed bread was… not my favorite. It’s filled with some kind of yellow-y syrup. It’s a little too sweet for my taste. My friends also hated it, but we ordered it, so we had to eat it, LOL! Cannot waste food, so many people are starving to death. The gelatine thingies weren’t our favorite, either. They’re made from coconut. I thought that tasted better than the sweet bread, but the other hated it. In the end, I ate all five of them.

Chao Fu Cheng
Chao Fu Cheng – I have no idea what this is, some kind of sesame ball.

So… like the caption says, I have no idea what that thing in the picture is. I tried one, but I still could’t make out what it was. We ordered it for our friend who is a vegetarian, but even he didn’t like it all that much.

Chao Fu Cheng
Chao Fu Cheng – This is pumpkin. Again, we ordered it for our friend who’s a vegetarian.

When I was a kid, I always had problems stuffing certain types of food down my throat. Pumpkin is one of them. I don’t like the texture, and it’s my interpretation of what vomit probably tastes like… so, no! No pumpkin for me. Now I eat it because it’s good for y ou, not beacuse I like it.

We ended the night early, I think around 21:00. We all had to work or go to class early the next morning. If you are ever in China, look for Chao Fu Cheng. I promise you won’t regret it!

Once again, a very happy and fruitful 2018 to you and yours!
