You Gotta Be by Des’ree [SOTW]

You Gotta Be is another song that will forever be on my playlist. This song will always make the list, always. I think it was 1998 when this song first came out. Des’ree had a few other songs, but this is the one I really love. It is so sad to say that I do not know a lot about this recording artist/record producer. She was ‘hot’ in the nineties but suddenly dropped off the radar. This song takes me back to my teens. Oh boy, they were some shitty years. But I have to say if given the chance I would not change a thing. Because those shitty years made me go through the things I did, to date the men I did, and I learned a lot from those experiences.

I went through depression for most of my adolescent life. Every single day I looked for something or someone to cheer me up. And guess what I found one day: You Gotta Be.

You Gotta Be brought me a lot of joy & positivity when I really needed it.

Since Des’ree has been awol for decades (I think), she does not have a Carpool Karaoke episode. Like Love Is In Need Of Love Today, I love the entire song. But let me share a few of my favorite lines with you.

Listen as your day unfolds, challenge what your future holds, try to keep your head up to the sky. Lovers they make cause you tears, go ahead release your fears. Stand up and be counted, don’t be ashamed to cry.

You Gotta Be – Des’ree

Oh, Des’ree. Lovers have caused me countless tears. But I have forgiven them & I thank them for it. Those tears were necessary.

I like this verse because it is full of possibilities & positivity. We can challenge what our future holds because I sure did that. Through the years, I accomplished things no one even thought possible. All of them told me my dreams were impossible. Well, I’m Possible. It is cheesy, I know, but it fits. Now, I do not need anyone to believe in me, because I believe in myself. But it is always nice if someone does.

One more, just because this song is so amazing.

Time asks no questions, it goes on without you, leaving you behind if you can’t stand the pace.

I just love the way she dances in the video. It is not choreographed, she is just being herself.

I am grateful & blessed to have the life I live. (Soon to be) Traditionally published & self-published author in her mid-thirties. I unsuccessfully tried changing this picture numerous times, so I just left it. I wish you lots of love & may you get what you need. <3
