Pollution in Benzdorp is horrible! That is one of the first things I noticed when I arrived there. I always knew Brazilians were not the most hygienic: they spit right where they eat (just like most Chinese) & when you rent a house to them, make sure you do not want it anymore. Because they will fuck up your house (Chinese too). Okay, not all Chinese & Brazilians are like this, but the majority is. The buildings are so rundown my skin itches just thinking about it. After I got back from all of my trips to the interior somewhere in March (Wuhan virus pandemic), my skin itched for a week. I kid you not.
It upset me when I saw the pollution in Benzdorp. People come to our country and do this. Help me make sense of it. What is the Surinamese government doing?
Have I mentioned that 99.9% of the foreigners living there are illegal? Our government sends police officers to Benzdorp, but it does not seem to work. Okay, so… Benzdorp is close to the airstrip. Where we stayed is Peruano. From what I have heard, the police can only stay in Benzdorp. But because there is little to no money to be made there, they go to Peruano & Ronaldo to work for the Chinese supermarket owners.
The Chinese supermarket owners are victims of robbery. It happens a lot. They do not have weapons, so they hire the police from Benzdorp to stay at their hotel for free. Even if there is just one, that one officer is enough to keep the bandits at bay.
As you can see, the pollution in Benzdorp is at an all-time high. My apologies for the quality of the bottom picture. We were in a boat that was going fast.
It breaks my heart, to be honest. Our country is beautiful and so full of promise. But we have a fuckwad president (who will most likely win reelection) who allows illegals to enter our country and destroy it. You cannot expect better if the government is also destroying us from the inside. In all seriousness: this needs to stop. The illegal immigrants have to be deported back to their own countries.
I have nothing against foreigners settling here, but I expect them to be of value to Suriname.
These rundown buildings look like the Big Bad Wolf could huff and puff and blow them down. They are hotels, and people stay here. Do you think they are up to code? I cannot believe people would endanger others’ lives to make a buck. No one cares as long as the cash register keeps ka-chinging.
Some people living there also complained to us that the Chinese supermarkets (the only ones there) overcharge and sell expired products. A few people asked if we were from our bureau of public health.
That is exactly what I mean: anything & everything goes, no one has papers, not sure of all the Dominican women working in the brothels are in our country legally. And if they are legal, do they have health insurance? How are they covered? What benefits do they get? It is a JOB!
Sex workers or not, they are still human beings who deserve humane treatment.
I interviewed a few Dominican sex workers. None of them told me about rape, like in Albina. But they mentioned that some men grope them without their permission. It does not matter what line of work you are in, no one wants a fucking greasy stranger to grope her. You always feel dirty.
That is the inside of a brothel in Ronaldo. I could not take too many pictures, I did not want to get ‘caught.’ The yellow stairs are the entrance of this pleasure den that smells like someone’s asshole. This has to be said: I admire those girls.
There were so many men of different ages there. They go to Ronaldo & Peruano to rest before they go back to French-Guiana to mine gold. And I did not see one guy I would want to sleep with, not even for money. I do not do drugs, but I would do drugs if I had to sleep with one of those men. YUCKKKK!
I am thankful for these experiences & I will help these women change their lives if they want to.
