next adventure

Jobs fill your pockets, but adventure fills your soul. (Jamie Lyn)

I have been thinking about my next adventure for quite some time now. What will I do after graduation? Another question many people have asked me, is “Why China?” Well… why not? As I have said before, I was so tired of the predictability of my life and I really needed to see and experience something new. And what is more different and a complete adventure than walking off the road you know? When I came back home in July of this year, I had absolutely no idea what was next. NO IDEA! Do you know how frustrating it is to not know what you will do next?

I wrote about this earlier this year… sometimes I felt absolutely chill and I thought I knew what I wanted, then other times I would feel so overwhelmed I could not sleep. Mom and Dad visited me in China for two weeks, we had some conversations about my next adventure, but I still had no concrete idea of what to do next. Sure, I had Plan A, Plan B, and so forth, but nothing that I could say, without a doubt, that I really felt passionate about. But I have to say, even when I was super overwhelmed, I knew it would all work out in the end. My life always does. Everything in my life has happened at the right moment and not a moment sooner.

I love being home, my parents, sister, and niece are wonderful. But I am looking forward to my next adventure.

I have worked for a Chinese businessman for a week. Well, four days. He owns a supermarket and hotel/nightclub not far from my house. How did we meet? About a month ago I had an interview with a Chinese business owner who was looking for an administrative assistant. We spoke over the phone and I went to his place of business to meet him. I hated it! His office is in his apartment… and to get to his apartment, which is dark, dank and dirty, you have to use a staircase that had dog pee and poo in front of it. WOW! That is soooooo not for me. I am not a germaphobe, but I like my surroundings CLEAN!

Sideline: I can change my mind about something in an instant. When my friends and family ask about my next step, I usually tell them Plan A, B, and C I am thinking about when I really have not made a choice yet. So most of my friends are confused when they talk to me because I change my mind at the drop of a dime. But I have learned that my life is not for others to understand, only for me. As long as I am not confused, all is well. Another thing I have learned: no one deserves an explanation about what I am doing, when, why or how. I just tell everyone: “I will let you know when I make a decision.”

I kid you not, that office was dirty, if it can even be called an office. There was this old desk in a corner in his living room, no airconditioning, and this time of year is HOTTER THAN JULY! That’s a Stevie Wonder reference, he has an album with that name. Sorry, but I would not work there for any amount of money in the world!

What if I needed to pee? YUCK! Anywho, I did not accept the job, but the guy was so impressed by me, he recommended me to other Chinese companies here. That is how I got the interview with the Chinese engineering firm. I met with them one afternoon, had to wait for the boss for almost three hours. When he finally arrived, he did not believe that I was the person he had spoken to on the phone. “You are not Chinese,” was the first thing he said to me. My sarcastic self wanted to say, “No shit!” But I just smiled, confused about why he would think I am Chinese.

We talked on the phone, I told him I was NOT Chinese… and he was still surprised when he saw me.

He told me to write a five-hundred-word-essay in Chinese about myself, kind of like a self-introduction. Can you believe he did not believe that I could read and write Chinese? Anyway, I wrote the essay within an hour, sent it to his assistant and he was very impressed. I mean… DUH! I knew he would be impressed. And yes, I am allowed to toot my own horn because I am proud of my accomplishments. So what happened? I will start working for them FULL TIME very soon! But… I also have something else in the works, so we shall see which way the wind blows me. Knowing me, that letter of resignation is always on standby, LOL!

Until next time, stay positive and spread love! Oh, and people drain your energy, BLOCK THEM!
