Dark Necessities by Red Hot Chili Peppers

Dark Necessities is on repeat! This is the new Song Of The Week [SOTW]. The Song Of The Week thing is new, I started it in the last week of April. Even though I definitely have my own style which few people like LOL, my parents definitely influenced my taste in music. Last week we had Stevie Wonder his Love’s In Need Of Love Today, this week it is the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

You know how you discover a song by accident and it becomes one of your favorite songs? That is how I ‘discovered’ Dark Necessities by Red Hot Chili Peppers. I was looking for Under The Bridge, which is a CLASSIC! And well, I did not stop the playlist & I heard this song.

At first, I liked the beat which is very eclectic, just like the band members. It is very catchy and kind of old school, like it will take you back to the nineties, then a few more seconds in, it is like it wants to take you back to the Motwon days.

It just goes to show how versatile and fucking genius these guys are. I mean, they covered Stevie Wonder’s Higher Ground and their version did even better. Okay, Stevie’s is a LEGEND, but the RHCP’s take on it is pretty badass.

Before I sing along to the song, I just had to upload their Carpool Karaoke with James Corden from 2016.

What do I love about this band? Not only do they have a body of work that spans close to four decades, but ninety percent of their music is amazing. That is not something you can say about many artists. And I laughed when James also took off his shirt. I was NOT prepared for that.

Another thing I love about them is how they are unapologetically themselves. They are very weird, LOL! But THAT is exactly why I love them so much! Okay, they did some iffy things in the past, especially Flea. But they are who they are & they do not apologize for it. I love it!

So, now for my favorite line from the song:

You don’t know my mind, you don’t know my kind. Dark Necessities are part of my design.

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Why do I like that line? It is simple: Dark Necessities are also part of my design.

I am very self-aware: I know myself inside and out. Let me tell you that I spent a lot of time doing this. There were times I did not know myself, stood for nothing & accepted everything. Thank all the stars those times are behind me. That is how I know my dark side very well. It is part of me & I embrace it. This side of me also makes me who I am.

I am grateful & blessed to have the life I live. (Soon to be) Traditionally published & self-published author in her mid-thirties. I unsuccessfully tried changing this picture numerous times, so I just left it. I wish you lots of love & may you get what you need. <3

  1. Red Hot Chili Peppers has always been better with John Frusciante, but this song is one of my favorites without him. Though Flea and Mark play best together.

    • I wouldn’t know that much, because I don’t really know the other members except for Anthony & Flea. I didn’t know they changed guitar players from time to time. Thanks for teaching me this. Much love! 🙂
