My Goodreads Reading Challenge for 2020

I like to read. What kind of books do I read? I am more into dystopian & science fiction. A little romance can’t hurt, I like that. But… I have to be honest and say that I struggle writing the kind of romance most readers like. Especially if you look at the trash they are publishing today… After, 365 Days, Fifty Shades of Grey, and all of the abusive relationships (featuring stoopit women and alpha douches) that are passed off as ‘romance.’ Apparently, nowadays ‘romance’ is the same as ‘being in a toxic relationship with a broken douche who uses you as his emotional punching bag, but you accept that because all he really needs is love, right? Oh, and you have to walk on eggshells around.’

Last year I read 50 books, which was a big deal for me. The original goal was to read 25, but I had a lot of free time since July 2019, so I read double that amount. Though I love to read, I barely had time for it the past four years. I tried reading a book here and there, but my Chinese language studies took up most of my time.

Because I read 50 books from July 2019 to December 2019, I figured I could add 20 more books to that list and make it a cool 70 books for my 2020 Goodreads reading challenge.

The beginning of the year was hectic. I was out of town almost every single week and I loved it. When we reached March I was 8 books behind schedule. When I had days off reading was the last thing on my mind. Then came the lockdown. I THOUGHT I would have more time to read, but I was wrong.

A friend informed me about a local writing competition somewhere in March. I decided to focus on that. It was interesting, sometimes frustrating, but I am so proud of myself that I finished it and sent it to the judges.

Plus, I had some editing to do to. That left little no time for reading. I changed my goal from 70 to 60… and two weeks ago, I brought it down to 50.

I had to lower the number of books of my 2020 Goodreads reading challenge again because I am writing a trilogy.

So… this year I am reading 50 books, the same amount as last year. This year I am reading more self-published books, I have not spent money on a book since I returned home last July. In the past, I spent at least US$150 on books per month. Even though I had little to no time to read when I was in China, I still had and bought many books. Most of them are still in China, I need to have them shipped to Suriname.

Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, September 16, 2020, I will publish three book reviews per week: Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

I have to warn you: I like books most people don’t, LOL! The self-published books (most of them) are also bad, especially the ones about abusive alpha douches. Sigh… Sadly, I will be reading them to shit on them in my reviews. I do hope that one will surprise me, and the alpha douche hero will have more character development than the cliche, “You make me feel everything, you changed me, you are my life,” but he still acts like a total fuckwad all the time.

Sometimes I read those books and I say out loud, “Fucking cringertertainment, fuck me! Did the fuckwad ACTUALLY say that? This book is shit, but I kinda dig it. It is sooo fucking bad, I just cannot wait to shit on it later.”

I have to save this part for a book review, but I just cannot help myself. Last night I was reading this Bratva ‘romance’ and the hero said, ‘I know I have a big cock.’ It was 3 AM and I LOLLED!!! I laughed so loud I thought I woke up the rest of the house. Let me tell you, I so wanted to hate on that douche, but I could not. I just could not hate on that alpha douche, LOOOOL! It was tooooooo funnnnyyyyy to be taken seriously!

OH! And one more scene in the book where the Bratva douche and the stoopit chick got it on and they broke the bed! Unless the bed was made from popsicle sticks, then yeah, I can see that happening. But not some massive mahogany bed. That woman is going to the fucking emergency room after! Bratva douche shifted her uterus into her brain with his big cock (LOOOOOOOOL and CRINGE all at once), there is no way she did not go to the ER after that! I LAAAUGGGGHEEDDDD out loooouddd!

All I could think about was the Mortal Kombat voice when I read this scene. LOOOOL!

Look for the first part of this book, Bratva Addiction, tomorrow morning.

I am grateful & blessed to have the life I live. (Soon to be) Traditionally published & self-published author in her mid-thirties. I unsuccessfully tried changing this picture numerous times, so I just left it. I wish you lots of love & may you get what you need. <3
