Nostalgic… what does this word mean? I asked my friend, GOOGLE, and she told me the following: experiencing or exhibiting nostalgia, a sentimental or wistful yearning for the happiness felt in a former time, place or situation. People who knew me back in my high school days, always said I had an attitude problem. Especially the girls. Why? I wasn’t one with many friends, especially not girls. Don’t ask me why, but I don’t have many female friends. Would I like to change that? Sure! But only if the women […]

My Life in China
myself

Myself… I love me some ME! I never liked being by myself, the silence was too loud. But when I reached the age of twenty-five, I realized I needed to change the way I looked at things. A couple of years ago, I was one of those negative people that experienced every single thing as… well … NEGATIVE. A couple of days before I left, I decided to go to dinner (again) all by myself. I had a long day at work, taught from 09:00 until 20:30. There were breaks, […]

My Life in China
dinner

Anything that involves my friend Ashleen is always fun, especially dinner. She really is one of the most amazing people I’ve met here. Of course I had to meet up with her before going back home. I have met many people in China, but very few have proven to be very good friends. I am glad Ashleen is one of them. My friend Mauris introduced me to Leo’s Pizza a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been back there twice for dinner. For a couple of years now, I make it […]

My Life in China
last day

My last day in China for 2017! Well, for this school year. Will be back on September 18. This time around, I will pay more attention to my flight dates. Last time around, I had to pay US$300 to change the date from July 17 to July 15. KLM said that it was US$150 to change the date, and another US$150 to buy a different seat, or something. Turns out, the class I bought my ticket in wasn’t available anymore. That means, I had to buy a different seat… which […]

My Life in China
greek food

Greek food in Xiamen, people! It’s no secret Chinese food has been very mean to my stomach. My first two weeks back, I ran to the toilet every three hours. I couldn’t keep anything down. It was absolutely horrible. Can you imagine how terrible it is to not be able to eat? During that time, I only drank soup and ate fruit. A very good doctor friend told me to eat bananas. They helped me a lot. Three to four months after my arrival in China, I decided it was […]

My Life in China
graduation party

Graduation PARTY! It really was a PAR-TAAYY!!! So, as I wrote in my last post, I was asked to be one of the MCs again. Since I am the only Surinamese here, I have to represent my country during every single event. Sometimes it gets so exhausting! Especially since almost every single thing in this school is done last minute. This year’s graduation party was amazing! I had so much fun! Taking many selfies really isn’t my thing (anymore), so I really admire my classmates. I’ve never met people who […]

My Life in China
graduation 2017

Graduation 2017 was an amazing event. I had so much more fun than I did last year. Last year I was very sad. Why? At that time, I was going through some personal turmoil. I had just started living the life I’d always envisioned for myself, and it was time to go home. It was so unfair! I was asked to be one of the MCs again, as I’d predicted earlier. But, I didn’t want to do that this year. This year, I was so OVER the whole MC idea. […]

My Life in China
farewell

It’s about that time again, that time where we need to bid our friends farewell. 2017 has been a good year for me in many ways, but it has also been one of the hardest ones I’ve had in a while. The year isn’t over yet, so there’s plenty of time to change what I don’t like about some things in my life. After a vacation of a month and a half, my roommate returned to Xiamen for a couple of days. It wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t have […]

My Life in China

This is the Chinese version of a post I wrote last year. I had the good fortune to see Ronaldinho in real life. In case you can’t read Chinese (LOL) and would like to read about this experience, click here for part one, and here for part two. Though the post is almost two years old, I wanted to write about it, because my Chinese has improved tremendously. I can express myself better now (as you can see, LOL)

My Life in China - Chinese Version
中文

It’s has been quite some time since I’ve put up anything in Chinese. I had my computer reinstalled and they deleted all of my files. All of my essays in Chinese were save in a special folder. Well, thankful I have a good memory and am a good writer. *smiley face*.
